Welcome to 4th Grade!
Hello parents, family and students...I am excited to have you in my class this year and can't wait to see your brains grow through our studies, activities, learning and fun.
Grays Creek Elementary School is an International School, what does that mean? That means that we have Visiting International Faculty (VIF) or teachers from another country on each grade level. Each grade level focuses on a different continent of the world and integrates cultural education and learning
into daily activities and lessons. Pre-K and Kindergarten focus on North America, 1st Grade focuses on Oceana (New Zealand and Australia), 2nd Grade focuses on Asia, 3rd Grade focuses on Africa, 4th Grade focuses on Europe and 5th Grade has a focus of study on South America. The activities and integration
of cultural information is endless and changing throughout the year. Students in 4th grade have the opportunity to visit other grade levels so that they can learn about the other areas of topic as well. School-wide assemblies bring us all together to learn about a region or area and we get to share our excitement
as a school.
A few topics to look forward to in Fourth Grade are as follows:
Math- multiplication and division, fractions, measurement,
Social Studies- North Carolina History, Government, European Influence, Technology
Science- Rocks, Moon Phases, Fossils,
Literacy- America's Past, Animals, Folktales, Poetry...and fun novel studies!
Be sure to ask your students what they are learning every day! Students will receive a planner where they will keep track of their spelling and vocabulary words, as well as daily assignments and important notices. They will take notes and complete work in their journals, which they will need to review before tests! Please know that it is the child's responsibility to complete and turn in their assignments in a timely manner.
I look forward to a great school year with each of you and feel free to contact me at any time with comments, questions or concerns!
Communication
Please feel free to contact me by email, note from student or phone message through the front office. If it is urgent please state that in the correspondance. When sending an email please use your child's name as the subject!
